5 Things That Smart Entrepreneurs Understand About Life
When it comes to business, what do you think matters the most when striving for success? No, I’m REALLY asking. Is it a solid foundation of marketing? Knowing the right people in the right places? Having start up capital to get you through the first few years of business? Wellll, I’m going to argue that smart entrepreneurs don’t make any of those things their sole purpose! Their understanding of social skills and how to cultivate relationships is what leads to long-term success. So today we’ll talk about five things that savvy business owners understand about business (and more importantly, LIFE)!
Sharing is caring (and it helps business).
The reality is, smart and successful entrepreneurs know that community over competition wins out every time. They are always making connections, and sharing their network with those around them (if it will genuinely help someone). Networking for the sake of getting free drinks and “acting” successful is not really effective because people see through your motivations instantly. They know that there is enough success (and money) to go around, so they aren’t scared to share their knowledge and connections if it will help someone move forward.
Uniqueness will always prosper.
With self-awareness comes the understanding that we are all unique in our own way, and therefore, no one will be able to offer the world EXACTLY what we have to offer. Smart entrepreneurs know this and leverage it! That’s why two companies offering similar products or services can both be wildly fruitful!
We are all speaking to different audiences. Some clients/customers will LOVE our approach, while others will resonate more with the competition. When you are acting from your true source, you can’t go wrong. This doesn’t mean you will automatically successful, but it does mean that you’ll be able to embody any lessons and continue to always move forward.
Judgment doesn't get you anywhere!
Spending time judging will NOT, and I repeat, NOT, get you anywhere in business or in life. Why? Because it’s a flat out waste of time. We are all doing the best we can, and we will never truly understand why people act the way they do, so why try to analyze and judge them. Heck, we can barely understand our own families most of the time! So stay in your lane, learn from others, be open and stop caring about what other people say, do, how they act, what they believe, etc. Spend that energy serving YOUR customers and clients!
Listening is REALLY useful.
Have you ever noticed that often the most successful people talk less and observe more? It’s when we really start to listen to we start to not only hear OURSELVES, but we hear others. And this means REAL listening. Not that listening where you are waiting to interject your own story/thoughts/theory/opinion/or whatever is swirling around in your mind. Sit quietly. Does this sound like something else? Yep. Meditation. When we quiet our own thoughts make the effort to REALLY hear ourselves OR customers, clarity usually follows. It’s a TOUGH task because we have to train ourselves to stop and really open. Try it sometime.
They ALWAYS can learn something new.
People who find success in life are ALWAYS curious. There is always another book to read, podcast to listen to, and person to talk to! Hint: there is NEVER a lack of education out there. So keep being open, looking for opportunities to grow and learn. Be willing to stay curious, even when that curiosity can leave us feeling a little scared. We don’t grow from the discomfort, we grow from the curiosity that pushes us to do great and inspiring things.
Creating something out of service can't fail.
Simply put, when your only mission is to make the world a better place by helping others, success can’t help but follow. The question is what does success look like for you? Is it only money? It is being your own boss? Connecting with people that leaves them better off than before. Make your own definition of success. What brings you happiness other than material things? THAT is where you will cultivate ideas and innovation.
There will always be people in the world that are smarter, faster, richer, better looking, you name it. But when it comes to really finding happiness and fulfillment, you simply need to connect with people in a real way. It doesn’t matter what type of business you have, it’s the relationships within that business that matter. So start there, and enjoy the ride, because it never ends!
(Oh yea, and don’t forget about kindness, too!)
